How To Use Twitter

Twitter

Before we show you how to setup your twitter account, we thought it would be a good idea to explain what twitter is and how The Green Shuttle will be utilizing its capabilities.

Twitter is a free social messaging utility for staying connected in real-time via your computer or mobile phone.

Wikipedia describes it this way:

Twitter is a free social networking and micro-blogging service, that allows its users to send and read other users' updates (otherwise known as tweets), which are text-based posts of up to 140 characters in length.

The Green Shuttle will be posting tweets on its twitter account for empty car availability at 30% off our website published rates. For more information please visit our Tweet Green Rides page.

How to Setup a Twitter Account on your Computer

Step 1 - Go to http://www.twitter.com

When you get to Twitter.com, you'll see this page:

Step 2: Click the Sign Up! Orange Box on the right side

This page will appear:

Step 3: Create a Username.

First add your full name and then your user name. If you are using this twitter account for brand management for your business, we recommend using your domain name minus the dot com/net/etc. (ie. http://twitter.com/mollermarketing) If it’s just for fun or personal use, use whatever you want as the username.

Create a password which you will remember

Add your email address, personal or business.

Click "Create my Account" (if you want, you can read the Terms of Service too).

A screen will pop up asking if, "Are You Human?". Type in the words you see to confirm your account and then click "Finish". You will receive an email from twitter asking you to confirm your account. Once you do, you will have full access to Twitter and all future notifications will be sent to the email address you entered in the create my account form.

Step 4: Start connecting

What's cool is that Twitter can connect directly with your gmail, yahoo, aol, or linkedin accounts to see who is already registered with a Twitter account. You can hand pick which of your new "Twitter Friends" you want to add.

Step 5: Search for anyone

If you can't find your friends through your email account, you can search twitter for anyone by username, first last name, or business name. Enter your search in the white box below "Who are you looking for?" and then click the blue search box.

Step 6: Follow your "twitter friends"

Once you find your friends on twitter you want to follow them in order to automatically receive their tweets.

Let's all follow The Green Shuttle. Once you search for the name "The Green Shuttle" (step 6) the above screen will appear. Click the grey follow box and then your screen will look like this:

The grey box should change to a green check mark with the word "Follow" next to it and the twitter profile will have a yellow background. Next time The Green Shuttle sends a "tweet" you will receive it automatically on twitter.

How to Setup a Twitter Account on your Mobile Phone

The great news is that prices have fallen so much in recent times that mobile Internet access is now affordable for almost anyone. Mobile Internet is also available on almost every mobile phone, even non-3G handsets.
